Perfecting the Pivot

“May you live in interesting times” – a subtle and ironic curse often attributed to the Chinese – is certainly apropos globally right now. I, for one, would much prefer to live in boring times, if this is what interesting looks like.

That being said, the enforced isolation and necessity for innovation foisted upon us by the pandemic has brought some unexpected opportunities. For yours truly, the relaunch of my consulting business has shifted dramatically from the fundraising and philanthropy projects that were percolating at the beginning of this year.

Instead of helping expand corporate and business partnerships for a wonderful service agency – businesses and corporations are having their own challenges, these days – or assisting a camping organization with expanding it alumni scholarship support (guess what, kids couldn’t go to camp this year, with or without scholarships), I have been working with three other, smaller, very special organizations to assist them in dancing through these most unusual times.

It’s an adventure, that’s for sure!

New Year – hello!

Delicious menus, family gatherings, festive decorations, hysterical gag gifts revealed and guffawed over during the traditional White Elephant exchange – and rain! – are behind us now, as the final days of the holiday season wind down. The KUSC-FM Holiday Channel created a wonderful soundtrack of continuous classical music for our celebrations and enjoyment. Thank you to the brilliant programmers at KUSC who thought of that delightful service. Sometimes, the joy of the season demands more than a carol.

A New Chapter

It’s always exciting and bittersweet to start a new chapter. Yesterday, I passed the baton as CEO of Torrance Education Foundation after a rewarding four years, full of “firsts” and successes. I’m eager to see what comes next for TEF!

What comes next for me is (1) relax a little, and (2) see what arrives!
